Incite Magazine Going Strong
2/16/07

Since Incite Magazine’s launch less than three months ago, we’ve come a long way, and appreciate all the support our readers have given us, but we also have a long way to go.  As we move further into 2007 and continue to grow as a community resource, we wanted to take a moment to let you know where we stand and what you can do.

Incite Magazine continues to receive article submissions from all over North America and we have some exciting new articles published on the site.  Aaron Sussman’s recent two-part series on the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War and the subsequent fights for justice reveals a critical yet often ignored tragedy of U.S. policy that still has enormous repercussions.  Two writers from Wesleyan University recently made their debut with Incite.  Kevin Young, a senior Latin American Studies and History major who has studied in Mexico and Nicaragua, analyzes how egregious violators of human rights in Latin America avoid prosecution and how the U.S. is complicit in these actions.  Young writes, “The outsourcing of violence has been a useful tactic in U.S. foreign policy for decades.”  He also wrote an article along with Wesleyan Students for Ending the War in Iraq in which he addresses the criticisms of an immediate military withdrawal from Iraq and argues that those criticisms don’t actually square with the reality on the ground.  Sean McClellan, who is writing a sociology thesis on moral knowledge in the public discourse over embryonic stem cell research, examines in his article the ethical dimensions of stem cell research and argues that the debate should be re-framed as one on public health policy.

As always, we encourage readers to submit articles about any topic that interests them or respond to an article already published in Incite.  Please review our submissions policy for more information.

Our Action Calendar continues to be updated daily and contains events from lectures to dance performances to protests occurring from Middletown, CT to Washington D.C.  If you have events to add to the Action Calendar, send all information to action@incitemagazine.org.  If you have suggestions of websites to add to our links page or any other feedback, please e-mail editors@incitemagazine.org.

We’ve felt honored that so many readers see what we see – that connecting progressive commentary and media analysis with action and activism is critical to enact real progressive change in the world.  To that end, we take pride in our What You Can Do About It section at the end of every article.  If there is something more we can do, please let us know.  To learn more about “What You Can Do,” click here.

Finally, we would like to thank all the media outlets that have covered Incite Magazine.  For a listing, check out the Incite in the News section.

The first six weeks of 2007 have been great, but the next six weeks will be even better.  Stay tuned for the release of our second print edition and more insightful and provocative articles.  Thank you for all your support.

Power of insight, power to incite.
