A Call to Incite:
The job of the progressive should be a simple one.
How hard can it be to convince someone that diplomacy is preferable to war, or that torture is abhorrent, or that clean air is a good thing, or that corporate and political accountability are essential, or that our constitutional rights should be guaranteed, or that we should take care of our citizens and question the efficacy of a system that imprisons one out of every 138 Americans, or that the media should stand for the people and truth and not collude with the government and corporate interests? What kind of misanthropic fringe would reject these calls for compassion, honesty, and fairness?
If you answered the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court, the mainstream media, or the White House, then you win the sad understanding of the times we live in. However, amid the fear and the abuse of power, there is hope. The failures of our government have spawned a generation of activists with new ideas and strategies. The dissolution of a daring and principled media has given rise to a media revolution powered by innovation, citizen engagement and collaboration. A better world is within reach.
Incite Magazine is a platform and community that links commentary and action, featuring articles that call for a compassionate and honest world while providing readers with the tools and resources to help fight for it. Every article includes information on how you can learn more, get involved, and fight for change.
Incite Magazine has the potential to be an extensive network for progressive writers, journalists, and activists in the larger Wesleyan community. We hope to serve as a venue for activist groups on campus to connect with one another, broadcast the issues they are fighting for, inform the community on how to get involved, and engage in thoughtful debate.
But we can only do this with your help.
